Boston: After a month on hiatus in August, our recurring Iraq Moratorium event is recurring again. The time and place on the 19th will be 6-8 pm at the corner of Mass Ave. and Boylston St., outside the Berklee College of Music by the Hynes Convention Center T station on the Green Line. A brief description of the action is posted here. Join the Socialist Party and the Stop the Wars Coalition to establish a De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) where all those who wish can congregate to denigrate and repudiate the war machine and celebrate the movement against war and oppression. Detroit: 11th Hour for Peace is encouraging our mailing list of 600 people to email Senators Obama & McCain to encourage them to support complete withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan, beginning now. Emails are to be sent to the two senators on or before the upcoming Iraq Moratorium. In addition, we are leafletting at local libraries this weekend to encourage the public to participate in this Iraq Moratorium effort. Contact.Lansing: The weekly noon-hour peace vigil in front of the Michigan CapitolBuilding in downtown Lansing continues. Lansing-area people have beenholding a weekly vigil for peace and justice since September of 2001. Sponsoring organizations include the Greater Lansing Network Against War &Injustice (http://www.glnawi.org/), the Peace Education Center (http://www.peaceedcenter.org/), and the Lansing Peace Vigil Community. The noon-hour vigil in front of the Capitol is one way that people in Lansing participate in the Iraq Moratorium. There may also be other local Third Friday peace actions. Arrive a little before noon if possible - and dress for the weather, with hat and sunscreen in the summer or warm clothing in the winter. We gather on the sidewalk, facing the street at the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Michigan Avenue. Bring your own sign if you like, or use one of ours. At 1 pm, the vigil closes as participants gather in a circle, share local peace and justice announcements, and share a moment of closing silence for peace. Madison: Madison Pledge of Resistance will hold an action on Monday Sept. 15, at noon at the Federal Building at the corner of Doty St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. There will be a meeting prior to the vigil at 11:30 a.m. at Scott’s Pastry Shoppe, 19 W. Main St. on the Capitol Square. We’ll formulate our plans on who wants to do what, and then walk over to the vigil corner at noon to begin chalking and leafleting. Some individuals may be moved to risk arrest during this action. Signs relevant to the action are welcome. “We’ll be chalking the outlines of loved ones……—trying to put a human face on the pain and insanity of war.” Cassandra Dixon, turning 50 this week. Milwaukee: Peace Action-Wisconsin and Milwaukee Coalition for a Just Peace sponsor a rush hour vigil in the heart of downtown, from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at Water Street and Wisconsin Avenue. There are signs, flags, banners, music, pets for peace, leafleting, and interaction with drivers and pedestrians. Join us as we start our second year. The universities will be back in session, which should swell the ranks. The Wheels of Justice bus tour will join us for the vigil, then hold a 7 p.m. event at Friends Meeting House, 3224 N.
